Twenty shares will be available in our six year old, who has gained four victories on the flat. Lightly raced as a youngster he has grown into a tall, physically strong type that will be ideal for national hunt racing. He has won approaching £17,000 in prize-money and is rated an impressive 84 on the flat.
Felix Fabulla is an honest, consistent horse with a lovely temperament. He has both class and stamina. He has won on Good to Soft through to Firm and takes his racing well. Last summer he ran eleven times.
Before purchasing Felix Fabulla, we met his former trainer Hughie Morrison, arranged for Nico de Boinville to ride him and also arranged for the horse to have a thorough vetting which included his wind and scans of his legs. He impressed the vet and Nico was delighted with how he felt. While there is no guarantee of success, or an injury free career, we really have taken every care to ensure partners are getting a great value purchase.
With the retirement of John Ferguson and a change of policy at Godolphin, who will no longer be sending horses to run in national hunt races, now is an ideal time to be involved in a talented summer hurdler.
With an initial asking price of £20,000 last year, we patiently waited until the owner was overstocked with two year olds before re-negotiating and agreeing to buy Felix Fabulla for £12,000. Foxtrot doesn’t charge any commission so partners just pay the purchase price.
‘Felix Fabulla’ is Latin for Lucky Story, the name of his Sire. Lucky Story also sired Foxtrot Charlie, who proved very lucky by winning Dan’s first ever race as a syndicate manager.
Trainer & Jockey
Felix Fabulla will be trained by Ben Pauling. Ben is former Assistant Trainer to Nicky Henderson. He has proven himself to be one of the most outstanding small trainers in the country and is a rising star in British racing. Ben has an excellent record with novice hurdlers, including this season with Grade 1 winner Barters Hill. He is the ideal trainer for our new horse. Ben has been involved in selecting Felix Fabulla and is very excited about his prospects.
Ben uses a number of top jockeys, but Cheltenham Gold Cup winning jockey Nico de Boinville has already ‘test-ridden’ Felix Fabulla for us and he is very keen to ride him in his races this summer.

“I am delighted Felix Fabulla is joining our yard to begin his novice hurdle career. We have had a great year with novices such as Barters Hill, Ballyhenry, Always Lion and many more. All our horses have plenty of schooling in the outdoor school as well as on the grass. With his size and scope and a handicap mark of 84 on the flat he is an exciting recruit to the jumps game.” Ben Pauling
Felix Fabulla was bought for £12,000 plus £600 purchase costs (vetting and transport), so a 5% share is available for £630.
In addition, training and racing costs for the first season (to 30th September 2016) will be a maximum of £1,220 per 5% share. Partners will receive a financial statement, including a breakdown of the expenditure and prizemoney won, following the end of the first season. Payment can be made upfront or by monthly Standing Order.
